Alpacas for Sale
Alpaca farming is a rapidly growing area of agriculture in the UK. We think this
is due to alpacas being fun and easy to keep, they produce a fantastic
quality product, can be kept on a small area of land and do not need
to be slaughtered
for profit.
Alpacas are part of the Camelid family, which includes llamas, camels, guanacos
and vicuna. They are indigenous to the high Andes of South America, and
despite not being a rare breed, are still relatively unusual in the UK.
We keep Huacaya alpacas, these are the fluffy type. We shear
them annually in June and usually cut between 2 – 4 kgs of fibre per
animal. All our fleeces are quality tested. We have a variety of colours,
from white, through fawn and brown to black.
Alpacas are easy to keep requiring little day to day attention.
They do need to be wormed, vaccinated and to have their feet trimmed.
We also give ours vitamin injections in the winter. They eat grass, with
extra hay or haylage in the winter. We also give our females and cria
(calves), alfalfa and Camelibra.
We currently buy in our stud services, choosing from some
of the best imported machos (stud males) in the country. We aim to improve
the quality and quantity of fibre with each generation.
Alpacas have a reputation for spitting, but we find they usually
spit at each other, and not at us!
Our alpacas for sale at Woodford Farm start at £500 + VAT for young males. We
always have stock available. We never sell alpacas in groups of less
than 3, because they are herd animals and need company.
Advice on the keeping of alpacas will be provided with all
sales and we're only a phone call away for on-going support.
