Baudet du Poitou Donkeys for Sale

Baudet du Poitou donkeys are an extremely rare breed of French donkey, having a global population of approximately 500 – 600 animals, both pure and part-bred. The Poitou donkey is a giant among donkeys, standing between 13.5 and 16 hands high at the withers with a thick brown or black shaggy coat. The pure bred Poitous have a lot of bone and large feet.

Woodford Farm is currently the only Baudet du Poitou donkey stud in the UK breeding donkeys registered in the French stud book. Our aim is to help bring this magnificent breed back from the brink of extinction, producing animals not only with good conformation and temperament, but which are also genetically sound.

We currently have an approved Book A Poitou jack, Paolo, and 6 jennies, 3 pure bred and 3 part bred. All our stock has been imported from France, from some of their best breeders.

We always have some pregnant females so please contact us to arrange a visit to view our donkeys for sale or to reserve foals. Donkeys are herd animals and need to have another donkey as a companion.

Woodford Farm would prefer to sell the best jennies to breeding homes, since our aim is to protect the breed and numbers are rising slowly.
