Miniature Mediterranean Donkeys for Sale

The Miniature Mediterranean donkey originates from Sardinia, and despite its small size was used to carry loads and turn mill stones. Although these donkeys are now nearly extinct in Sardinia, they are popular in America and Canada, which is where most of the stock in the UK has been imported from. There are now at least 300 donkeys in the UK, but the number is rising steadily as people realise what super little animals they are. Whether you are looking for a faithful pet, something for a child to ride or an adult to drive or a wonderful show animal, a Miniature could be the answer.

These donkeys require similar care to a horse. They will need to be wormed and vaccinated regularly, to see the dentist and the farrier and to have their fields cleared of droppings. They do have a different temperament to a horse though, being more loyal, intelligent and affectionate. We think of them as being great stress busters, since they love nothing less than having a big hug and a cuddle. It’s sometimes hard to get your chores done when there is a Mini about demanding attention!

To be classified as a true Miniature donkey, an animal must be under 36” at the withers, but most in the UK are between 30 – 34”. All our donkeys for sale are registered with the Miniature Mediterranean Donkey Association, and are recorded in the stud book where appropriate.

Here at Woodford Farm we have a range of colours, from the traditional grey dun to the rarer sorrel, chocolate brown, black and coloured.

All our donkeys for sale have a passport, and have also been microchipped and vaccinated too. ( You can tell they are vet owned.) We imprint our foals at birth and halter train them as well.

Donkeys are herd animals and need to have another donkey as a companion. We would never sell a donkey that was going to be kept alone.
